Often times we hear someone say pray for me or I will pray for you. Do we take those sincerely, do we believe in prayer? People all over the world are praying and praying boldly. When we are taught to pray and we know why we pray then we are able to pray for each other and believe in the power of prayer . Prayer is an earnest, sincere or devout petition to God . It grants us the capability of building a relationship with God as it is a connector to God, a lifelong quest and the best quality about prayer is that it cannot be taken away from you . That’s right no matter where you are or what you are doing you can pray as it does not require a physical space, gift of speech, hearing or body part. It is a lifelong quest to pray and to pray effectively because God knows our wants and our needs. The more we pray the stronger our relationship with God becomes as we learn to pray strong bold prayers instead of praying exactly the same prayer and becoming flat, stale or even hackneyed when prayed out loud.
I remember as a child every night we gathered around my Moms’ bed and we all took turns praying and I prayed the same prayer nightly. My Mom was always weak and sick so I always prayed for safety from all harm and good health. My prayers were simply quite hackneyed, one night I remember my sister laughing during my prayer and my great grand aunt reprimanding her afterwards telling her it was her duty as an older sister to teach me to pray instead of laughing at me. Was I embarrassed??? of course yes!!! However, I didn’t know better so I continued praying my same prayer. As the years progressed and I heard people pray openly I would always be scared as their prayers always seemed like perfection. One day in an intimate bible study setting I had a prayer request and to my surprise I was asked to lead in prayer. I could not disappear, I could not say no, I was a woman of God I was studying Breaking Free by Beth Moore how could I back out, how could I let my fellow women of a God know that speaking publicly was one of my fears???? With a pounding chest, panic setting in and a fear of my sisters laughter….timidly I began to pray. Well I got through it and I started practicing praying out loud at home and I must say it has built up confidence in me to pray, to trust God and forged a deeper relationship with God. The power of prayer has given me confidence to pray openly as it has become not a rule but a ritual in my life. I know to pray in supplication, intercession, adoration and thanksgiving and I often challenge myself to write my prayers during my worship times at home.
Now when I pray I feel confident, I feel joy in talking to God, I feel confident when I stand in the front of a room full of people my fears have been lifted, the power of prayer has set me free and I now feel as tall as a giraffe despite being only 5’6″.
God loves us, we are his people and he is our God, prayer is a small task to activate his blessings in and over our lives, to be thankful while he listens to the dreams of our hearts and the troubles of our minds. Though he knows them he wants to hear us actively acknowledge and embrace them.
Relieve yourself of earthly worries, fears and stress put it in prayer and grow in faith and trust. Accept the summons from God to build a relationship with him through daily prayer instead of making sales calls when you want to be delivered from your earthly problems.
You can start by praying Psalm 139:23-24
“Search me, O God and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting”. Amen.
