You’re not Super Woman

So often we are lead to believe being Super Woman is a way of life and the way God intended for us to live our lives.  So not true biblically we know the seventh day is considered a day of rest so then why do we continue to work everyday?

Well today I am making it A day of rest after church- Because I know God only made one of me therefore I often have to power down and administer selfcare  and today is one of those days because I’m not Super Woman…though our society teaches us to dwell on multi-tasking and  consider us successful as we appear to be getting things done; nevertheless  in the end we are exasperated, we suffer from exhaustion, anxiety and cognitive overload. I move at Gods pace and what he wants me to do he will lead. Success is my very own definition of doing what makes me happy or what I think is best for my family. So though I may not fit everyone’s description or fall into any particular stereotypical category I am happy just being me. #myownsuccessstory #selfcare #relaxing #success #happiness #cognitiveoverload #reflection #sunday #vibes #exhaustion #anxiety #stress #multitask #society #psychology #psychproblems #endstigma

🙏🙏🙏The Power of Prayer🙏🙏🙏

Hey Loves

IMG_8936.PNG Often times we hear someone say pray for me or I will pray for you. Do we take those sincerely, do we believe in prayer? People all over the world are praying and praying boldly. When we are taught to pray and we know why we pray then we are able to pray for each other and believe in the power of prayer . Prayer is an earnest, sincere or devout petition to God . It grants us the capability of building a relationship with God as it is a connector to God, a lifelong quest and the best quality about prayer is that it cannot be taken away from you . That’s right no matter where you are or what you are doing you can pray as it does not require a physical space, gift of speech, hearing or body part. It is a lifelong quest to pray and to pray effectively because God knows our wants and our needs. The more we pray the stronger our relationship with God becomes as we learn to pray strong bold prayers instead of praying exactly the same prayer and becoming flat, stale or even hackneyed when prayed out loud.

IMG_9135.JPG I remember as a child every night we gathered around my Moms’ bed and we all took turns praying and I prayed the same prayer nightly. My Mom was always weak and sick so I always prayed for safety from all harm and good health. My prayers were simply quite hackneyed, one night I remember my sister laughing during my prayer and my great grand aunt reprimanding her afterwards telling her it was her duty as an older sister to teach me to pray instead of laughing at me. Was I embarrassed??? of course yes!!! However, I didn’t know better so I continued praying my same prayer. As the years progressed and I heard people pray openly I would always be scared as their prayers always seemed like perfection. One day in an intimate bible study setting I had a prayer request and to my surprise I was asked to lead in prayer. I could not disappear, I could not say no, I was a woman of God I was studying Breaking Free by Beth Moore how could I back out, how could I let my fellow women of a God know that speaking publicly was one of my fears???? With a pounding chest, panic setting in and a fear of my sisters laughter….timidly I began to pray. Well I got through it and I started practicing praying out loud at home and I must say it has built up confidence in me to pray, to trust God and forged a deeper relationship with God. The power of prayer has given me confidence to pray openly as it has become not a rule but a ritual in my life. I know to pray in supplication, intercession, adoration and thanksgiving and I often challenge myself to write my prayers during my worship times at home.

IMG_9138.JPG Now when I pray I feel confident, I feel joy in talking to God, I feel confident when I stand in the front of a room full of people my fears have been lifted, the power of prayer has set me free and I now feel as tall as a giraffe despite being only 5’6″.

IMG_9136.JPG God loves us, we are his people and he is our God, prayer is a small task to activate his blessings in and over our lives, to be thankful while he listens to the dreams of our hearts and the troubles of our minds. Though he knows them he wants to hear us actively acknowledge and embrace them.

IMG_9137.JPG Relieve yourself of earthly worries, fears and stress put it in prayer and grow in faith and trust. Accept the summons from God to build a relationship with him through daily prayer instead of making sales calls when you want to be delivered from your earthly problems.

You can start by praying Psalm 139:23-24
Search me, O God and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting”.
Amen.

The virtue of Patience….blessed is she

Hey Loves,

“And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.” Luke 1:45

As I sat in devotion this morning I chose to focus on this particular scripture that I had received from a friend. I found it fitting as everyone seems to be living rather spontaneously. We live in a society which makes everything available at our fingertips so we have lost the virtue of patience. The few of us whom still enjoy shopping away from our computers, When we walk into a store we don’t expect to encounter a line or have someone wait on us. We are microwaving most of our experiences and as a result the relationships we form are in quantity however not of high quality.

IMG_8957.JPG
We often need to stop and think do we need 5000 friends on social media or do we need friends whom we actually know and can relate to? Friends whom are supportive of us should be the only ones we need in our circles. It is good to have a global connection and relationships with others but it’s even greater when we have a personal relationship with God. The word of God promises to bless us and pour into us, God gave his only begotten son for us. Yet we often wonder why we experience the struggles that we do and think all is against us. As believers we ought to encourage and nourish our faith so that we can hear the voice of God. Know that while we are being impatient God is working diligently for us, it may not be when we expect things to happen for us but in the time that God deems it right for us. Think about it without a test we would have no testimony and without being a victim we would not be a victor. God loves victories and that’s why we encounter struggles so that by overcoming them we are able to share our victories and make a believer of the non-believer.

Hey Loves,
It seems like yesterday that I was introduced to the lovely Miss Jasmine Crowe at an award show honoring Toya Wright for her philanthropic work in the Black Community. I can’t believe it was a year ago I vowed to work with Jasmine in giving of my time and services as a parent liaison or mental health counselor to children. Unfortunately, I had just started my PhD classes and my time was limited with my other volunteer activities with the American Red Cross and Dress for Success Atlanta. However as time would have it Jasmine is hosting her award show again and this time she is honoring Tamika Raymond and other philanthropists and organizations for their diligent work and support in our community.

The Healthy Heart Series

image

Hey Loves!
With so many people focusing on health and fitness I wanted to take it a step further and focus on the “heart”….yes the major muscular organ which pumps blood throughout the blood vessels to various parts of our body.  To do so I teamed up with Heart Health coach and relationship expert “Sharon Reid” to network and teach heart health.

image

To kick off the first event we focused on the heart as an organ of spiritual, emotional and physical aspects and how to protect or guard your heart because the three parts can be affected by heart disease and other ailments.

image

The spiritual heart is non physical it is your inner treasure the center of your feelings, which is located to the right side of your physical heart.

image

The emotional heart is the deep emotions that you feel for or towards others. It is the center of wmotion and is located to the left of the physical heart. Being receptive to your emotional state it experience s many feelings from joy to grief. So any kind of disappointment,  death of a loved one, rejection is stressful on the emotional heart.

image

The physical heart is our actual heart which pumps the blood throughout our body and is affected by every spiritual or emotional feelings that the body experiences. When you are excited the heartbeat pumps more forcefully and when we are stressed or disappointed it wreaks havoc by stunning the heart with extreme shock.

image

We ought to take care of our hearts by ensuring that we are balancing our emotions, eating healthy and exercising.  It takes maintenance to keep your heart healthy.  A happy heart keeps you happy and keeps your heart healthy.

How healthy is your heart?

National Wear Red Day

20140207-120944.jpg
Hey Loves,
People everywhere today should be wearing red in significance of our support for women living longer, stronger lives and the fight against heart disease. As we all know heart disease is the number one killer among women.. Once per month we wish that everyone would wear red, in recognition of Heart disease and even volunteer services to benefit the American Heart Association. Wearing red encourages others to live healthier lives and promote the fight against heart disease which has no value on color, age, race, nor gender. Knowing the signs of a heart attack can save your life or some one else.

20140207-122053.jpg

20140207-122110.jpg The Awareness of heart disease has increased the fight against heart disease, increased research and the support for heart disease, resulting in a 50 year celebration.

20140207-123317.jpg We all know people whom suffer from heart disease as there are millions of Americans living with heart disease, strokes and cardiovascular conditions. Education, yes knowledge of the signs, treatment and care can improve someone’s life. My dad had Congestive Heart failure (CHF) about 10 years ago his heart worked at only 10% from severe damages today his heart works at almost 40% because knowledge of heart disease has taught me how to care for him. Thanks to research I still have my Dad (72 years old) with me, he is living with heart disease but he is here with me.

20140207-125108.jpg As a result I plead
with everyone take care of your heart, live a healthy life style, make smart food choices, have healthy relationships and exercise.

Thanks for stopping by hope you will join in the fight against heart disease and support the American Heart Association. (Pictures courtesy of the American Heart Association website).
